It may have escaped the most fanatical cyclist, but in February 2010 the worlds cold countries are competing for the Winter Olympics in Vancouver-Whistler.  What can you expect if you live in Vancouver or are coming to the Lower Rainland at that time?

Well, it is not that quite that bad.  There will be some serious road closures and cycling lane detours.  Judging by the state of the roads in Vancouver right now, a mountain bike is needed for some commutes, but by February, we are told that everything will be ready.

The City of Vancouver has posted clear information regarding what to expect, including detailed road closures and detours.

Bike detours

As a cycling friendly city, for those that are coming for the first time, there are lots of shops for renting bikes, from customs to mountainbiking on the famous North Shore.  By the amount of roads to be closed (including the Sea to Sky Highway at many times), going by bike will be the best option anyway (isn't it always?).

Anyway, we can be rest assured that the signage will be clear, unambivalent and practical.
