Mount Washington Alpine Resort hosts downhill and cross-country races this weekend as part of the 2009 BC Cup.  The provincial race series returns to Vancouver Island for the fourth year in a row.

"We're always glad to host racers from across BC," explains Race Director Mike Manara.  "The conditions have been amazing up here and our DH and XC courses are in great shape for this weekend."

The first day of competition on Saturday, August 1st belongs to XC racers.  Mount Washington's 6.5km XC loop will test riders' endurance and will to win.   The cross-country races beginning at 10am.

Day two of the BC Cup on Sunday, August 2nd features DH at its finest down the infamous Monster Mile.  The Monster Mile is widely acknowledged as one of the toughest downhill courses in Canada.  The DH races begin at 1:30pm on Sunday.

The BC Cup at Mount Washington isn't a race held exclusively for riders on the BC Cup circuit.  Citizen class categories are available for riders who want to compete for fun.  For complete registration information for all categories, visit karelo.com.

If you're not into racing but have time to volunteer, Mount Washington could use your help this weekend.  Volunteers are needed to help the races run smoothly and safely; the best part is you get to check out the province's best mountain bikers up close!  Volunteering is fun and you meet some great people and gain valuable event experience.  No previous bike race experience is necessary.  Perks include FREE bike park or winter day tickets, FREE food, and all the fresh air you can handle!
