Race Course
This is a challenging criterium course that will throw everything at the riders. The city has come to do extensive patchwork for the race but the surface remains quite uneven. We will mark hazards with paint and chalk for race day. The great news is that the entire neighbourhood is getting a full repave this fall so the surface will be pristine for 2010 and beyond.
- The start/finish is on Mainland Street in front of Glowbal Grill
- Proceeding in a clockwise fashion, the riders will immediately take a hard right onto Helmcken as they pass by our new beer garden (wave to your friends!)
- This is followed by a hard left onto Hamilton Street where there is an approximately 200m straight before . . .
- A 90 degree right hander onto Davie Street where there is a nice little kicker of a hill
- Make another 90 degree right turn onto Homer and get the pedals turning for the back stretch-this will likely be your only safe chance to grab a drink if you are carrying a bottle
- After two long fast blocks there's a high speed right turn onto Nelson Street into a sharp little downhill section followed by . . .
- A very fast and gnarly right hander onto Mainland St. This is a very tricky corner so ride smart and know your limits.
- This is followed by a quick sprint to the finish line
This will be a physically and mentally demanding criterium that fits in well with the overall theme of the event. Big Hurt! Fast speeds, tight corners, and one brutal little mole hill make this one of the toughest criteriums around
We're going to have 20,000 fans out on a hot Canada Day cheering you on, so ride hard and have fun!
